MOMMY MAKEOVER

MOMMY MAKEOVER – FLEMING ISLAND, FL*

OVERVIEW
Motherhood is a wonderful experience, but pregnancy can often wear on a woman’s body. Stretched skin, deflated and droopy breasts, and pockets of unwanted fat can make a woman look and feel older. Fortunately, Fleming Island plastic surgeon, Dr. William Wallace, works with women to transform their body back to its youthful appearance through a procedure called the mommy makeover. The surgery utilizes several different techniques to remove and reduce fat, and trim away excess skin to lift and tighten the problem areas. Each mommy makeover procedure can be customized to include a tummy tuck, liposuction, breast augmentation and/or breast lift and even vaginal rejuvenation and/or a labiaplasty. However, the primary focus for this procedure is usually on the breasts and abdomen to correct the physical effects of childbearing. All of these options will be presented to you and explained in detail based on your desires and expectations.
SURGICAL TECHNIQUE
The mommy makeover procedure is uniquely tailored to each patient, depending on what body part they want to improve. In most cases, the breasts and tummy are addressed together (though not always). The conditions addressed during surgery and the surgical technique used will vary and will be discussed in detail at the time of your consultation.

 BREAST
Conditions caused by pregnancy: Loss of volume and/or breast tissue, sagging and/or drooping breasts, excess skin (ptosis), and/or breasts that have become too large.
Surgeries to consider: Breast augmentation with implants, breast lift, breast augmentation with a lift, and breast reduction surgery. Depending on the condition of your breasts after pregnancy, there are a number of cosmetic breast surgeries to consider to give you the size, shape, and look you desire to give life back to your breasts.
 ABDOMEN
Conditions caused by pregnancy: Excess fat and/or persistent bulge in the abdomen, sagging and loose skin in the lower abdomen, stretch marks, and other unsightly skin irregularities.
Surgeries to consider: Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), liposuction of the abdomen. Body contouring with tummy tuck surgery and liposuction can produce a toned, flatter tummy that resembles your pre-baby look. Liposuction can be used on the abdomen, hips, and flanks to attain a shapelier contour.
 LOWER BODY
Conditions caused by pregnancy: Sagging skin and excess fat in the buttocks, hips, and thighs. In addition, the vaginal area can also be impacted by pregnancy causing the labia to become enlarged and the muscles within the vaginal canal become loose, which can cause a number of issues.
Surgeries to consider: Lower body lift, which includes liposuction and skin tightening of the buttocks, hips, and thighs. Labiaplasty is also a common treatment for new moms. Childbirth can significantly impact the look and function of the outer and inner vaginal area. Labiaplasty creates a natural appearance and allows for healthy function to be restored to a female's most intimate parts.
DURING/AFTER SURGERY
All mommy makeovers are performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. Depending on how many techniques are combined, the surgery time could vary. It is common for patients to have a short hospital stay with this surgery, but not always. Most women will require a full month to recover, but many will be able to return to work within 2 weeks. The results will reveal themselves in multiple stages as the breast implants settle into their natural placement and the incisions begin to heal. It generally takes a full year for all of the changes to make their final appearance.
AVERAGE COST FOR TUMMY TUCK
The price for abdominoplasty will vary depending on the technique used, the patient’s condition and aesthetic goals, as well as other factors relating to the surgical case. However, on average, most patients can expect to pay between $7,000-$12,500 for their tummy tuck procedure.
MOMMY MAKEOVER FAQS
 IS IT SAFE?
There are always risks to consider when contemplating surgery. When procedures are combined, those risks can increase. Therefore, it is important to find an experienced and double-board certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. William Wallace, who is also skilled in performing multiple procedures in one setting. Ultimately, a combination procedure can have numerous benefits, including only having to undergo surgery once, which means only one recovery and one fee.

 WHAT IF I GET PREGNANT?
In a perfect world, women should wait to have a mommy makeover until after all pregnancies have been completed so the surgical results are not compromised. Generally, any body part that has been lifted or tightened would be at risk for stretching out if a subsequent pregnancy were to occur.

 WHAT ABOUT STRETCH MARKS?
If stretch marks exist on an area of the body (i.e. breast, tummy, etc.) that is going to be lifted and tightened, they may be removed when the excess skin is trimmed away. For any stretch marks left behind, as well as any other skin irregularities that may exist, there are skin rejuvenating techniques that can help fade and remove these imperfections.

 WILL I HAVE SCARS?
Scarring will occur with almost any cosmetic procedure. However, every effort is made to place and close the incisions carefully so that scarring is minimized. Scarring eventually fades into faint lines and can be concealed by undergarments and bathing suits. Most patients feel that the physical results following a mommy makeover far outweigh the scarring left behind.
